Natural Stone Polishing
Polishing natural stone is a process of using specialized tools and techniques to bring out the beauty and shine of the stone. The process begins with cleaning and preparing the stone, which may involve removing any dirt or debris, stains or scratches, as well as any buildup from waxes or other surface treatments. After the stone has been thoroughly cleaned, polishing pads with a coarse grit are used to grind the stone and remove any surface imperfections. The polisher then moves up to finer grits for a smoother finish. Finally, a stone-safe polish is applied to the surface and buffed until dry with a lint-free cloth or paper towel.
In addition to the more traditional methods of polishing natural stone, there are now several other methods available that can be used to create a shine. These include grinding with diamond abrasives, crystallization, applying barrier coatings, and buffing with polishing powders and compounds. For hard stones, usually, those with a hardness rating of 8 or higher, diamond polish tends to work best, but each type of stone should be considered individually to determine the best method for achieving shine.
